The Fall of the Beerlin Wall

In 2009 East and West Berliners celebrated the twenty year anniversary of the falling of the Berlin Wall. This dismantling of concrete unified a city and people who until then had been divided by a conflict of political ideology.

In 2009, Section W'ers will witness the dismantling of their Beerlin Wall during the reconstruction of Percival Molson Stadium. Unlike the Berlin Wall which stretched for 140 kilometers, the Beerlin Wall ranged about 10 feet and was located at the very top of Section W. It was guarded by The Beer Pharaoh, The Kaiser, Bird Dog, The Dans, The Daves, The Jeffs and The Erics. Beer vendor Renaud spent many years supplying full cups of beer to this special place in our section. The Beerlin Wall was a precious piece of concrete that unified a loyal core of Section W members and supported their many cups of beer. The Beerlin Wall was a place of constant activity, providing a sense of community for fans who shared their passion for the Alouettes.

The fall of the Beerlin Wall will take with it not only the memories of many cups of cold Molson, but the manic laughter and hijinks that have given Section W its special character.
